The old mill wheel from 1660 in Glomma near Isegran

There were few mills in Fredrikstad in the old days, and the city's surroundings are not blessed with large waterfalls, but with the Glomma just outside the living room door, it was natural to utilize the current in the river.
 In 1660 it was therefore decided that a power mill should be built on the north side of Isegran. A Jutlander, Christen Jensen, undertook the task at his own expense. The mills' most important function was to supply flour to the garrison in Fredrikstad.
